Thaddeus Stevens

  • The most powerful radical in the House
  • Had defended runaway blacks without pay and was buried in a black cemetery
  • Devoted to blacks, hated white Southerners
  • Leading figure in the Joint Committee on Reconstruction

  1. A couple of corrections: He was buried in an integrated cemetery, not an exclusively black cemetery. He didn't hate white southerners, only the ones that defended the Confederacy. Believe it or not, there were many loyal southerners.

  2. you may also want to add that he came up with the radical reconstruction plan in 1867 and led the impeachment crisis against Andrew Johnson. :)
